For a cause..

A small attempt for a school for the under privileged ... I am designing a range of hand painted clutch bags. Part of the proceeds of the sales goes to bringing a cheerful grin on the face of the children of the school.....

I made not one , but many friends today.
So easy it was, to make my way.
Into little hearts, so loving and dear.
When in a humble way,I tried to bring some cheer.

Admit.. I must, for a selfish reason,
I first walked into the school, one festive season.
Little kids stood in rows and lines,
Grinning ear to ear..waiting for mine.

And yes I grinned,
And yes I smiled,
And yes I laughed,
Sheepishly I admit, I guffawed.

With gay abandon, I sat and pranced.
Mimed, mimicked, sang and danced.
Those few hours with the little kids,
Made me feel, one in the midst.

To those, whom I sound strange,
Weird, odd a bit deranged.
Wait, I need to tell some more.
Hear me out, though I may sound a bore.

This school is for kids not yours or mine,
But for those who are not so blessed by the divine.
Yet they crave for things we do,Pretty dresses, frocks and shoes.
Books,bags, pencils and tiffin too,
Not "hand me downs" but nice and new.

They do deserve, they do need.
Our love, our gifts, our little deeds.
Yet when I walk in again,
I`m selfish, self motivated and vain.

I`m going for my own need,
To make more friends, to satiate my greed.
Their toothy at times toothless grins,
Make my feet dance ,in a crazy spin.

I love them for their innocent eyes,
I love them for their squeaky `bye`
I love the way they wait for me,
I love the way they peer to see.

Little goodies coming out of my bag,
Wish I had more, Wish I had a wad..
Little or more, what my purse permits,
I will go again, each time with some more.. I`m optimist..

Party Time !!!
Aren't their smiles to die for !!!
October 2014..A recent trip to Goa led me and my boys to a most delightful experience..In the quiet streets of Mapusa , is a humble shelter for boys. Margaret Bosco Bal Sadan houses under previlaged children between the age group of 7yrs-18yrs. (Please feel free to check.)A small effort to bring a smile on their faces was a day well spent..Go for it.. :)

One year later.. October 2015..back to this place in Goa..walking with a huge silly smile..Maruti, my little friend in red shorts sitting with me, found his family...YEAHHHH.. :))

What led me here?? I can't resist putting this up on this page... one simple hope and a fervent plea for people who are kind enough to read the blog..This is a school " Diksha" in one corner of Palam Vihar. Started in a small room , it became a school for the first generation student..only 16 kids...now an amazing 250 children..I am seriously in awe of people who work relentlessly and selflessly for children who are lesser privileged..I am completely in awe of them.. I came back yesterday holding a child's hand..from school uniforms to shoes to books to a meal to a midday snack..hope the child prospers and really does well in life..Every class that I peeped into the children would sing in unison " Ishwar aapke saath hain" ( " God is with you" )Please feel free to learn more about this school..A modest amount we would not even blink to spend but which goes a long way for a child who needs it..I walk with a smile..:)
